The region includes the holiday destinations of Cairns,
Cairns Beaches, Palm Cove, Port Douglas, Kuranda and the
Atherton Tablelands. Tropical North Queensland also
boasts of its
resort islands. Some of the better known - Dunk Island,
Lizard Island and Green Island.
Cairns with its international airport is the gateway to
this region for most visitors. Cairns is a laid-back yet
cosmopolitan city that is a renown holiday destination
for both the domestic and international traveller. It
offers world class accommodation, dining, shopping and
an unparalleled quantity of tours, attractions and
activities.
Tropical North Queensland is home to two world heritage
listed natural wonders. Both of these wonders, the Great
Barrier Reef and the Rainforest attracts millions of
visitors a year.
The Great Barrier Reef is
alive with a myriad of coral and fish species, a diver
and snorkellers paradise. Cairns & Port Douglas (55km
north of Cairns) are considered to be the main departure
points for the Great Barrier Reef.
The rainforest is a haven for flora and fauna not found
anywhere else in the world - eco tours abound with most
tour operators picking up from accommodation reception.
There is more to this region than just the reef and the
rainforest - aboriginal culture, pioneer history, rugged
outback and farming & mining communities. Even spending
a week here does not do justice to what is on offer to
see & do.
